Lauren Laverne, the Desert Island Discs presenter has revealed that she’s been diagnosed with cancer.
In a post on Instagram the journalist wrote that she was “caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test” and she’s likely to achieve “a full recovery”.
The BBC presenter expressed gratitude to the medical team who have cared for the patient with “incredible skill and kindness” as she receives medical treatment in a hospital.
She stated: “I’m in hospital at this moment and I want to take this time to express my gratitude. First of all, I want to thank the medical team that have brought me to this point with unbelievable ability and compassion.
“To my friends and relatives who have been truly amazing each step of the way I am extremely thankful and cherish you so very much. And of course thanks to my coworkers.”
Ms Laverne 46, who hosts Desert Island Discs on BBC Radio 4 since the year 2018 she stated: “I also want to advise that if you’re not taking testing or putting off the appointment to have yourself examined make it happen now. The majority of us will be diagnosed with an illness at some time, and should you get it being able to detect it early is essential.
“It’s generally my job to spread positive vibes into the air, however any good vibes you can spare are appreciated here. I am sending lots of love to everyone in similar boats or who is on shore. xxx”

She made use of the post to remind people to seek out a doctor even if they’re avoiding scheduling an appointment or taking an exam.

Vicky McClure, the actress she played, wrote: “Send love and speedy healing xx.”
Caitlin Moran, a feminist writer who wrote about the feminist movement, said: “Loz, we know you’ll be a queen throughout this, just like you’re queen in every other thing. But I’d like to kick cancer out of the nut. Love you forever xxx.”
Following the announcement that Ms Laverne’s illness was announced during her breakfast show presenter Deb Grant who was seated for her, told the audience: “I just wanted to say on behalf of everyone here at 6 Music we’re thinking of you, we hope you’ll be back with us very soon… we love you Lauren.”
Grant performed the tune The track We Can Work It Out. claiming it’s one of Ms. Laverne’s “favourites”.
Nick Grimshaw to fill in the place of Laverne
A BBC spokesperson stated: “Everyone at 6 Music, Radio 4 and The One Show sends Lauren our very best wishes and we look forward to welcoming her back to work when she’s ready.”
In the time, Nick Grimshaw will fill the shoes of Ms. Laverne and host his six-hour Music breakfast show.
This was taken care of, since Ms Laverne is scheduled to take her pre-planned holiday the week following. The BBC presenter will be announced the following week, which is when she would be expected to return in due time. Desert Island Discs is currently off broadcast until the end of September.
Ms. Laverne started filling the shoes of Kirsty Young to act as Desert Island Discs host when Young was forced to retire due to health issues, then taking over the host role permanent.
She also hosts on her own BBC Radio 6 Music breakfast show, and was previously the host of diverse TV shows, such as the Channel 4 show 10 O’Clock Live. She gained notoriety as the lead vocalist of the 90s pop punk bank Kenickie.
Celia along with Celia and Dr Leslie Grofton, Ms Laverne’s parents, passed away within four years of one another.
She was “utterly heartbroken” when her mother died suddenly, and the presenter was at Glastonbury Festival 2022.
She described Celia her “most compassionate and most tenacious person I have ever met” in an Instagram post.
